How long is a fringe show?

The short answer

Usually about an hour, at the fringes that say so. Prague Fringe's standard slot is 60 minutes or just under, and FRINGE WORLD in Perth says most of its shows run around 60 minutes. Lengths still vary: Edmonton's Fringe listed 2026 runtimes from 45 to 115 minutes, and the Edinburgh Fringe gives each show's length on its listing.

The hour-long slot

Prague Fringe says that, as at other fringes, each venue runs several hour-long performances a day, with 30 minutes between shows (15 minutes between comedy shows) to clear and reseat the room. Its standard slot is 60 minutes or just under, and it only occasionally takes 30 or 90-minute shows. Performances run from late afternoon into the night, and the programme is built so you can see a show, have a drink and go back for another. FRINGE WORLD in Perth says most of its shows run for around 60 minutes.

Longer and shorter shows

Not every fringe sets a standard length. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe gives each show's start time and running time on its listing; the 2026 Assembly Gala Launch, for example, ran 2 hours. Edmonton's Fringe posted runtime changes during its 2026 festival ranging from 45 to 115 minutes. Adelaide Fringe notes that some events are durational, so you can book them after they have started, and suggests planning a night by browsing its sessions by time.

Planning a fringe day

Leave gaps between shows. The Edinburgh Fringe advises at least 30 minutes between shows in the same venue, and more when moving between venues, and recommends against booking shows back to back. FRINGE WORLD suggests allowing at least 60 minutes before a show to travel, collect tickets and find the venue, and warns that latecomers may not be admitted. Check the length on each listing before stacking shows.
