How much does it cost to apply to a comedy festival?

The short answer

Submission fees at curated comedy festivals mostly run from nothing to about 50 dollars: Raleigh asks $25, or nothing from North Carolina comics; Boston asks $35; Toronto Sketchfest asks $50.85 Canadian with tax. Fringes charge registration instead, and the Edinburgh Fringe asked £96 to £393.60 in 2026, depending on the length of the run.

Submission fees at comedy festivals

Raleigh Comedy Festival charges $25 for a feature submission and $0 for comics who live in North Carolina. Montclair Comedy Festival asked $25 for solo acts and $45 for groups once its early rate of $15 and $35 ended on 31 July 2026. West End Comedy Fest in Atlanta charged $30 through 31 August and $40 from 1 September, with no refunds. New South Comedy Festival in Greenville, South Carolina asks $35, and accepted acts pay no performer fee. Boston Comedy Festival's contest costs $35, or $45 late. The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival asks $45 plus tax, $50.85 Canadian, for each act. SF Sketchfest charges a fee but does not state it on its page.

Fringe registration fees

Fringes charge every show to register. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe's 2026 fees, VAT included, were £96 for one or two performances, £204 for three to five, and £295.20 at the discount rate or £393.60 at the standard rate for a full run of six or more. Brighton Fringe prices by the total seats across a run, from £69 for an unticketed event to £300 for 2,000 seats or more, with lower early-bird rates. Adelaide Fringe lists $395 (Australian) for performing arts with four or more sessions and $210 for any genre with up to three. NZ Fringe charges from $30 to $350 (New Zealand), depending on the type of season and ticket price.

Free routes and other costs

Some festivals lower the barrier. Raleigh Comedy Festival's local category is free for North Carolina comics. The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival asks applicants who find the fee a barrier to contact it, and gives acts that are not selected a ticket package worth at least the fee. NZ Fringe invites artists to email if its fees look like a barrier, and the Edinburgh Fringe offers payment by instalments for a single show. The fee is rarely the only cost: the Edinburgh Fringe also takes a 5 per cent commission plus VAT on tickets sold through its box office, and Brighton Fringe adds £30 for late registration.
